The Roots and Rhythms of Go-Go

Go-Go music, a genre that originated in Washington, D.C., is a unique blend of funk, rhythm and blues, and early hip-hop influences. Emerging in the late 1960s and 1970s, it was pioneered by legendary artists like Chuck Brown, known as the ‘Godfather of Go-Go.’ This genre is characterized by its infectious beats, call-and-response interactions, and live performances that keep audiences dancing. Go-Go music is more than just a sound; it’s a cultural movement that has shaped the identity of the D.C. area and continues to influence artists worldwide. At Go-Go Loops, we celebrate this legacy by providing tools and resources for musicians to create and innovate within this iconic genre.
